What does the abbreviation ISO stand for?

ISO is an abbreviation for International Organization for Standardization, or International Organization for Standardization. This standard has ensured that standardization has been introduced for shipping containers in, for example, dimensions and choice of materials.

An ISO container is designed and built in such a way that it has the same size worldwide. As a result, the shippers who transport or trade the shipping container do not have to use a different means of transport for each container. For example, a 20ft container has the same dimensions all over the world.

What are the ISO quality requirements for?

For this reason, the containers must be strong enough to be lifted and to bear the weight. In addition, the containers can be exposed to temperature differences of 100 degrees. In different conditions, they must maintain the same quality. What containers all have to meet is described in the ISO standard ISO 830, ISO 668, ISO 6346, ISO 1161 and ISO 1496-1.
